Artist Reception: Saturday, October 31, 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Imagine stepping into another world, a parallel universe that is part dream, part fantasy.
Imagine a dark place where all the manifestations of your unconscious that haunt your
sleep suddenly take shape, embodied through images that are sometimes playful, often
unsettling, and occasionally downright disturbing.
Imagine a dreamlike ceremony that guides you along as if in a procession, moving from
station to station, with hymns in foreign tongue playing in the background. Notice,
during this parade, the scent of incense that rises to your nose and permeates your
psyche. And pay attention to your heartbeat, which sometimes quickens as your gaze
meets a particularly evocative piece. This is what you are invited to experience here.
And if you emerge feeling a bit shaken and slightly disoriented, as when waking from a
particularly unsettling dream, the artist will consider that he has achieved his goal.
Have a good waking dream.
Pol Turgeon Artist Statement
Born the offspring of a Jesuit and Saint, the specimen responsible for these works was
branded with the mark of original sin. He would have loved to dedicate his life to the
priesthood, but its daily ritual of bathing in holy water would never have purified his
tainted soul. Stripped of his life’s purpose he found nothing better than to dedicate his
life to creating pious images with a certain twisted je ne sais quoi, or more clearly said,
an immoderate twisted twist.
